City of Shreveport Announces Readers and Writers Challenge Camp

Summer Reading Camp

The City of Shreveport, in collaboration with Caddo Parish Public Schools, is providing a free and productive summer reading and writing camp. The camp is to enhance the reading skills of children ages K-4th grade, and will last through the month of June.

This is the sixth year of the program, which has expanded to six SPAR community centers, and has enrolled nearly 200 students. Teachers and paraprofessionals work with students four days a week to close the educational gap that tends to occur during summer break.

This year’s camp takes place at the following SPAR Community Centers:  A.B Palmer, Airport Park, Bill Cockrell Metro Park, David Raines, Mamie Hicks, and Southern Hills.

A closing ceremony will take place at 2 PM, June 28th at Southern Hills Community Center.   At the closing ceremony, students will be awarded with Pete the Cat themed goodies and Scholastic books to keep for their personal library. Parents and community volunteers are encouraged to attend.

For questions about the program, call the Caddo Parish School Board’s Family and Community Engagement Department at 318-603-6522.
