Shreveport's Fair Grounds Field stadium, located next to Independence Stadium, opened in 1986. The site the stadium sits on was formerly used in the 1950s as a neutral playing site for college football games between the University of Arkansas and Louisiana State University. The stadium is the home field and headquarters of the Shreveport-Bossier Captains minor league baseball team and has a rich minor league baseball tradition. It went through major renovations in 1999 and 2009. The stadium holds 4,300 fans.
Fair Grounds Field was host to the 1995 Texas League All-Star Game. It has hosted many college baseball match-ups as well as the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Baseball Tournament. Fair Grounds Field also holds many high school exhibition games throughout the high school baseball season.
